Workshop goal

Based on an agreement between three institutes from Japan (Graduate School of Biological Sciences, Nara Institute of Science and Technology [NAIST-BS]), USA (College of Biological Sciences, University of California, Davis [UCD-CBS]), and China (Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences [CAS-IGDB]), NAIST will invite US and Chinese students to participate in an International Student Workshop, a one-week student exchange program to be held once a year from 2007 to 2011.

In 2011, ten graduate students each from CAS-IGDB and UCD-CBS, and 22 graduate students from NAIST-BS, will stay together for three days in the same accommodation. The participating students are responsible for on-site organization of the workshop, and will present and discuss their current research activities. All programs will be carried out in English. We hope that in-depth discussion in a closed environment, together with a culture visit to neighboring cities, will promote international scientific and cultural exchanges at the personal level, and will facilitate practical communication among young scientists through a common language, English.
